Xplor is the Riviera Maya’s premier adventure park, purpose-built for adrenaline seekers who want more than a relaxing day at the beach. Located 30 to 45 minutes south of Playa del Carmen, this Grupo Xcaret property delivers some of the most exhilarating outdoor activities available anywhere in the Yucatan Peninsula.
The park’s signature attraction is its network of 14 zip-lines, including two of the highest and longest in the region. You will soar above the jungle canopy, over cenotes, and through cave openings at heights that make your stomach drop. The final zip-line deposits you with a splash into a refreshing pool of water. The entire circuit takes about 90 minutes and is genuinely thrilling even for experienced zip-liners.
Underground river rafting is the second must-do activity. You paddle a two-person raft through a flooded cave system illuminated by dramatic lighting. Stalactites hang overhead as you navigate through chambers that open into wider caverns. The experience lasts roughly 45 minutes and offers a completely different perspective on the Yucatan’s underground world.
The amphibious vehicle trails take you through 5 kilometers of jungle roads that alternate between land and water. You drive specially designed vehicles through mud, over rocks, and into flooded cave passages. It is one of the few places in Mexico where you can drive a vehicle through an underground river.
Xplor also features a hammock splash, swimming areas in the underground rivers, and a buffet lunch with unlimited beverages. All activities are included in the $143 USD ticket price. Unlike some adventure parks, there are no add-on fees for the main attractions.
The park operates in two modes: Xplor during the day (8 AM to 5 PM) and Xplor Fuego at night (5:30 PM to 11 PM), where the same activities are done by torchlight and firelight. Xplor Fuego is a unique experience but is only available on select evenings.
Xplor is best suited for active travelers, couples, and groups of friends who want physical adventure. The activities require a moderate fitness level — you need to be comfortable climbing stairs, paddling, and handling zip-line harnesses. Children must be at least 5 years old and 40 inches tall. For families with younger children, Xel-Há or Xcaret are better choices.
Book through the official Xplor website for the best rates. Early booking discounts of 10 to 15 percent are common when purchased 21 or more days in advance. Arrive when the park opens to complete all four main activities before the afternoon crowds build.
