PGA Riviera Maya is one of the most impressive golf facilities in Mexico, featuring two courses designed by the Robert Trent Jones II team. The property is located between Playa del Carmen and Tulum near the village of Akumal, about 30 minutes south of Playa along Highway 307.
The centerpiece is the 18-hole championship course, opened in 2010, which stretches 7,272 yards from the longest tees — making it one of the most substantial layouts in the Riviera Maya. The course weaves through the Mayan jungle past natural lakes, cenotes, and limestone formations, creating a dramatic and visually stunning round of golf. In addition to the main course, PGA Riviera Maya offers a 9-hole par-3 course that is ideal for families, beginners, and golfers looking for a shorter round.
The PGA TOUR announced the inclusion of PGA Riviera Maya in the Korn Ferry Tour starting in 2025, marking Mexico’s debut in this prestigious developmental tour. This recognition cements the course’s status as a world-class venue capable of hosting professional competition at the highest levels.
Green fees vary significantly by season. During high season (November through May), morning rates are $337 USD and afternoon rates after 2:10 PM are $264. Summer rates (June through September) drop to $233 for morning play and $175 for afternoon rounds. October pricing falls in between at $275 morning and $206 afternoon. Every green fee includes a state-of-the-art golf cart fitted with speakers and a GPS system, practice balls, tees, and water bottles.
Reservations must be made at least 48 hours in advance through the official PGA Riviera Maya website. The course is not the most convenient option for day-trippers from Playa del Carmen due to the 30-minute drive, but for serious golfers seeking a championship-caliber experience in an extraordinary natural setting, it is well worth the trip. Many golfers combine a round at PGA Riviera Maya with a visit to Akumal Bay for snorkeling with sea turtles or a stop in Tulum.
