A family-friendly open cenote with shallow crystal-clear water and a peaceful jungle setting. About 5 meters deep — perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Connected to Cenote Azul next door.

Cenote Cristalino is one of the most family-friendly cenotes near Playa del Carmen, offering shallow crystal-clear water in a peaceful jungle setting. Located less than 30 kilometers south of Playa del Carmen along Highway 307, this open-air cenote is an ideal first cenote experience for travelers with young children or anyone who prefers calm, accessible swimming.

The cenote gets its name from its exceptionally clear water, which reveals every detail of the rocky bottom even at its deepest points of about 5 meters. The shallow edges are perfect for toddlers and non-swimmers to wade and splash safely, while the deeper center provides enough depth for comfortable snorkeling and swimming.

The surrounding jungle creates a shaded canopy that keeps the area pleasantly cool even on hot days. Rocky ledges and tree roots frame the cenote, giving it a natural, unspoiled feel that many visitors prefer over the more developed cenote parks. There are no zip-lines or adventure activities here — just pure, quiet natural beauty.

Snorkeling at Cenote Cristalino reveals small fish and interesting rock formations along the edges. The calm water and excellent visibility make it a great spot for beginners to practice with a mask and snorkel before tackling larger cenotes like Gran Cenote or Dos Ojos.

Entry is 200 MXN (about $11 USD) per person. Basic facilities include a small parking area and simple changing rooms. There are no restaurants, but the nearby highway has convenience stores and small eateries.

Cenote Cristalino sits right next to Cenote Azul, and many visitors do both in a single morning. The two cenotes are within walking distance of each other and offer complementary experiences — Cristalino for quiet relaxation and Azul for cliff jumping and a livelier atmosphere. Arrive before 10 AM for the clearest water and smallest crowds.
